CIEDixLab: analysis, experimentation, evaluation

CIEDixLab is an initiative focused on the analysis, experimentation and evaluation of technological solutions for the educational sector, with a particular focus on those based on artificial intelligence.

The project emerged from the need to address the growing use of artificial intelligence tools, especially generative AI tools, and to support evidence-based decision-making, in line with the current legal framework and the real needs of educational institutions.

CIEDixLab is conceived as an evolving experimental environment, developed around Moodle, in which different artificial intelligence integrations are tested, both through cloud-based services and through on-premises solutions and open technologies.

The initiative makes it possible to assess the technical, pedagogical and regulatory  viability of these functionalities, paying particular attention to Galicia’s bilingual reality, the presence and treatment of the Galician language, the protection of personal data, and the traceability, replicability and transparency of the tests carried out.

CIEDixLab places the teaching and learning process at its core, recognising the role of teachers as guides and facilitators, and students as active participants in their own education.

Objectives

  • Explore the potential of emerging technologies to support teaching activities and student guidance.

  • Test the integration of technological functionalities into Moodle, with particular attention to those based on artificial intelligence.

  • Analyse market solutions based on artificial intelligence available in cloud environments.

  • Analyse solutions based on open-source models, both in cloud environments and in local infrastructures.

  • Assess the technical, pedagogical and regulatory viability of the solutions analysed.

  • Address Galicia’s bilingual reality, with particular attention to the presence, quality and treatment of the Galician language in artificial intelligence tools.

  • Establish assessment criteria that allow results to be evaluated in an objective, traceable and replicable manner.

  • Identify good practices, limitations and conditions of use that may help guide future decisions on the incorporation of new technologies into educational environments.
